Statins efficacy confirmed in advanced phases of cirrhosis in an animal model

Researchers from IDIBAPS publish a translational paper in Gastroenterology demonstrating that statins improve survival and main clinical symptoms in advanced cirrhosis and acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF). The paper also describes and validates the first animal model of ACLF, which has allowed studying the beneficial effects of statins. The work has been coordinated by Jordi Gracia-Sancho, leader of the Liver Vascular Biology Research Group from IDIBAPS and CIBEREHD, and Jaume Bosch, emeritus investigator from the same group, and first authors are Dinesh Tripathi and Marina Vilaseca. Dr. Gracia-Sancho receives a grant from the Gilead Sciences Research Scholars Program

Dr. Jordi Gracia-Sancho has obtained a grant from the Gilead Sciences Research Scholars Program. The program provides financial support to the institutions of 3 young researchers to develop a two-year research project in the field of liver disease. Each award is funded up to USD130,000. Dr. Gracia-Sancho officially received the grant on April 15th in the framework of European Hepatology Congress, organized by the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL).

Drs. Bruix and Gracia-Sancho, awarded by the EASL for their research on liver diseases

Dr. Jordi Gracia-Sancho, researcher from the Hepatic hemodynamics and portal hypertension IDIBAPS team and from CIBERehd, and Dr. Jordi Bruix, head of the Hepatic Oncology Unit of Hospital Clínic and IDIBAPS and scientific director of CIBERehd, will be awarded by the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) in recognition of their scientific career. Dr. Gracia-Sancho has been awarded with the Young Investigator Award in Hepatology 2016 and Dr. Bruix receives the recognition for his entire scientific career. The awards will be presented in the framework of the International Liver Congress, organized by the EASL and held between 13 and 17 April in Barcelona. These awards are a prestigious recognition to the research carried out to date by both researchers in the field of liver diseases.

Researchers from IDIBAPS and Hospital Clínic, awarded in the VHIR Health Innovation Contest

Doctors and researchers from Hospital Clínic and IDIBAPS were awarded in the second Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) Health Innovation Contest. The first prize in the Healthcare Practice Innovation category was given to the project “Development of a surgical device for sutureless vascular anastomosis” led by Dr. Jordi Descarrega, third year resident at the Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Department of the Hospital Clinic. In the Biomedical Research Innovation category, the second prize was to the project “Liver on a Chip” led by Dr. Jordi Gracia-Sancho, Ramón y Cajal Researcher in the Liver hemodynamics and portal hypertension IDIBAPS team.

Researchers from IDIBAPS and Hospital Clínic awarded for the best communication on basic Gastroenterology at the SEPD Congress

A study conducted by researchers from IDIBAPS and Hospital Clinic of Barcelona has received the Arias Vallejo prize for the best communication in Basic Gastroenterology presented at the LXXIV Annual Congress of the Spanish Society of Digestive Pathology (SEPD). This prize is awarded by the Digestive System Spanish Foundation (FEAD). Sergi Guixé-Muntet and Dr. Jordi Gracia-Sancho, researchers at the Liver hemodynamics and portal hypertension IDIBAPS team, are the first and last authors, respectively. Doctors Sergi Vila, Carmen Peralta, Juan Carlos Garcia-Pagan and Jaume Bosch have also participated in the study entitled “Role of autophagy in endothelial hepatic ischemia and reperfusion”.
