One in eight of all European deaths between 15-64 yearsdue to alcohol

Europeans drink more than twice the world’s average and alcohol represents the number one addiction problem in Europe today, greater than any other drug or gambling, with around 1 in every 8 deaths amongst 15-64 year olds being due to alcohol. The first ALICE RAP policy brief on alcohol policy, launched at the project’s General Partner Meeting in Newcastle this week, advocatesevidence-based policy solutions to tackle this persistent addiction problem.

The ODHIN project aims to improve screening and brief interventions in primary care to reduce hazardous drinking

Many drinkers who regularly consume large amounts of alcohol are unaware that they are reaching dangerous levels of alcohol intake. At present, according to the latest scientific estimates for Europe, around 15% of the adult population consumes levels of alcohol that could be considered to put their health at risk. The European project ODHIN, led by Hospital Clínic Foundation for Biomedical Research, in Barcelona, analyses how to improve early identification and advice at Primary Care Centres for at-risk drinkers in European countries.
