Two Clinic professionals receive the Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera “Talents” grants

Last Wednesday, November 23, was held in the Auditorium La Pedrera the 5th ceremony of delivery of the  Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera “Talents” Program grants, in which Hospital Clínic participates for the first time with the granting of two Scholarships. The event was chaired by the Health Minister of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Antoni Comín, who was accompanied by Ms. Marta Lacambra, CEO of the Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation; Dr. Jordi Ara, ICS North Metropolitan Area Manager; And Dr. Josep Mª Campistol, CEO of the Hospital Clínic, who was also chosen godfather of this year’s promotion.

Hospital Clínic makes a commitment to the molecular diagnostic of solid tumors in clinical practice

Hospital Clínic de Barcelona goes one step forward in the molecular diagnosis of solid tumors with a single test that detects multiple mutations within 22 genes in patients with advanced lung cancer, melanoma and colorectal cancer. The implementation of this genetic test based on massive parallel sequencing technologies allows shortening the time of diagnosis and personalizing the treatment for each patient. With this test, the Medical Oncology department at Hospital Clínic, together with the Biomedical Diagnostic Center (CDB), positions at the forefront of the clinical application of this diagnostic tool in the Spanish public health system, because of the technology used and the number of genes and tumors analyzed.

Dr. Francisco Cervantes is the author of the 2015 most read article in Blood journal

How I treat myelofibrosis” is the title of the 2015 most read article in Blood, the official journal of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) and the publication with the highest impact factor (10.452) in this field. The author is Dr. Francisco Cervantes, Senior Consultant at the Hematology Department in Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and head of the IDIBAPS research team Hematological oncology. Since its publication in late 2014 this scientific article has been read more than 35,000 times and has remained as the paper with more visits on the journal website for eight consecutive months, which is a record.

Hospital Clinic incorporates a robot for the automatic preparation of cytostatics

The Hospital Clínic of Barcelona has today announced the incorporation of an automated robot at the Pharmacy Department for the automatic preparation of chemotherapy treatments. This is the first equipment of its kind to be installed in Catalonia and its acquisition has been possible thanks to a donation from the Oncologic Foundation of Catalonia (FOC). The presentation has been chaired by Dr. Boi Ruiz, Minister of Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia, and have also participated Dr. Josep M. Piqué, General Director of the Clinic, Dr. Carles Codina, Head of the Pharmacy Department, Dr. Alvaro Urbano, Head of the Clinic Institute of Haematological and Oncological Diseases  (ICMHO) at Hospital Clínic, Ms. Dolores de Oya, President of the Oncologic Foundation of Catalonia (FOC), and Dr. José Sánchez de Toledo, President of the Scientific Adviser Board at FOC.

Hospital Clínic leads the new international guidelines for the treatment of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

The Hematology Department at Hospital Clínic, represented by Dr. Emili Montserrat, leads an article published in Blood in which new recommendations have been formulated for the treatment of severe forms of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.
