Drs. Bruix and Gracia-Sancho, awarded by the EASL for their research on liver diseases

Dr. Jordi Gracia-Sancho, researcher from the Hepatic hemodynamics and portal hypertension IDIBAPS team and from CIBERehd, and Dr. Jordi Bruix, head of the Hepatic Oncology Unit of Hospital Clínic and IDIBAPS and scientific director of CIBERehd, will be awarded by the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) in recognition of their scientific career. Dr. Gracia-Sancho has been awarded with the Young Investigator Award in Hepatology 2016 and Dr. Bruix receives the recognition for his entire scientific career. The awards will be presented in the framework of the International Liver Congress, organized by the EASL and held between 13 and 17 April in Barcelona. These awards are a prestigious recognition to the research carried out to date by both researchers in the field of liver diseases.

The Hospital Clínic incorporates the first robot which will perform surgical procedures by a single orifice

The Hospital Clinic of Barcelona is from today on the first hospital in Spain, and one of the firsts in Europe in using the new surgical robot da Vinci Xi, a high technology equipment specially able to perform gastrointestinal surgical procedures with the minimal invasion for the patient. Furthermore, in the near future, this new equipment will allow, in a more optimum way, the surgery by a single orifice thanks to the Single Port technology (SP). With this new acquisition the Hospital Clínic has clearly made a strong commitment in the use of robotics for surgical procedures. Dr. Antonio M. de Lacy, Head of the Gastrointestinal Surgery Department, together with Dr. Josep M. Piqué, General Director of Hospital Clínic, Frank van Hyfte, Sales Director at Intuitive Surgical, and Xavier Carbonell, CEO in Palex, have presented this new equipment in a press conference.
