Eduard Vieta, conferred and honorary doctorate by the University of Valencia (UV)

Dr. Eduard Vieta, head of the Psychiatry and Psychology Department at Hospital Clínic and head of the IDIBAPS research group Biological bases of psychiatric disorders and nuclear psychiatry, received on June 17th an honorary doctorate by the University of Valencia (UV), in a solemn session in the Auditorium of the educational institution. The session was attended by the secretaries from the Generalitat Valenciana Josep Joan Vidal (Education) and Ricardo Campos (Public Health), as well as a broad representation of the university community.

A study identifies areas of the genome involved in the response to lithium in bipolar disorder

Researchers from Hospital Clínic, IDIBAPS, University of Barcelona (UB) and Mental Health Research Center (CIBERSAM), associated with  Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII), have taken part in an international study, published in the prestigious journal The Lancet, where a region of the genome involved in the response to lithium in bipolar disorder has been discovered. This study is the largest genetic analysis using GWAS (Genome-Wide Association Study) carried out regarding the response to this medication so far and included data from more than 2,500 patients with the disease.

Four researchers at Hospital Clínic and IDIBAPS among the 2015 most cited scientists

Functional remediation improves autonomy and overall functioning of patients with bipolar disorder

According to a study published in the British Journal of Psychiatry, patients with bipolar disorder who have followed a functional remediation program show better overall performance and a greater autonomy. The study has been coordinated by Dr. Eduard Vieta, Head of the Psychiatry Department at Hospital Clinic and head of the Research Group on Bipolar Disorder at IDIBAPS. There have participated 10 groups of the Networked Biomedical Research Center on Mental Diseases (CIBERSAM).

A new review on bipolar disorder highlights the need of a translational approach of the disease

Researchers from Hospital Clínic and IDIBAPS have published a review on bipolar disorder in the prestigious journal The Lancet. It is an update on the latest developments in tackling this disease, of which a complete vision is offered. Researchers emphasize in the importance of a translational approach of bipolar disorder and underline the need to search for biomarkers for a better diagnosis and a personalized treatment. The article has been coordinated by Dr. Eduard Vieta, head of the unit and research group on Bipolar Disorder at Hospital Clinic and IDIBAPS, and Dr. Iria Grande, specialist at the same team.

Eduard Vieta, honorary doctorate from the University of Valencia

Dr. Eduard Vieta, head of the Psychiatry and Psychology department at Hospital Clínic and head of the IDIBAPS research group Biological bases of psychiatric disorders and nuclear psychiatry, will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Valencia (UV) as recently approved by the Governing Council of the university. Together with Dr. Vieta, Amelia Valcárcel, Paul Preston, Josep Fontana, Saskia Sassen, Josep Massot, Dale W. Jorgenson and Adriano Piattelli, will also be invested.

Dr. Vieta is also Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Barcelona and Director of the Bipolar Research Program of the Networked Biomedical Research Center on Mental Diseases (CIBERSAM). He has co-edited, together with Dr. Francesc Colom, the “Psychoeducation manual for bipolar disorder”, which was published in Chinese in 2014.
