Eduard Vieta, honorary doctorate from the University of Valencia

Dr. Eduard Vieta, head of the Psychiatry and Psychology department at Hospital Clínic and head of the IDIBAPS research group Biological bases of psychiatric disorders and nuclear psychiatry, will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Valencia (UV) as recently approved by the Governing Council of the university. Together with Dr. Vieta, Amelia Valcárcel, Paul Preston, Josep Fontana, Saskia Sassen, Josep Massot, Dale W. Jorgenson and Adriano Piattelli, will also be invested.

Dr. Vieta is also Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Barcelona and Director of the Bipolar Research Program of the Networked Biomedical Research Center on Mental Diseases (CIBERSAM). He has co-edited, together with Dr. Francesc Colom, the “Psychoeducation manual for bipolar disorder”, which was published in Chinese in 2014.

Researchers from IDIBAPS and Hospital Clínic, awarded in the VHIR Health Innovation Contest

Doctors and researchers from Hospital Clínic and IDIBAPS were awarded in the second Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) Health Innovation Contest. The first prize in the Healthcare Practice Innovation category was given to the project “Development of a surgical device for sutureless vascular anastomosis” led by Dr. Jordi Descarrega, third year resident at the Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Department of the Hospital Clinic. In the Biomedical Research Innovation category, the second prize was to the project “Liver on a Chip” led by Dr. Jordi Gracia-Sancho, Ramón y Cajal Researcher in the Liver hemodynamics and portal hypertension IDIBAPS team.

Dr. Manuel Bernal, new President of Confederation of European ORL

Dr. Manuel Bernal Sprekelsen is news for being named last June 11, President of the European Confederation of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (ORL-HNS). Dr. Bernal received the diploma of appointment during the closing ceremony of the Third Congress of the organization held in Prague the last 7 to 11. Similarly, in the same congress was awarded the poster entitled “Flexible Carbon Dioxide Laser Fiber for Benign and Malignant Lesions of the Upper Airways: Preliminary Experience” signed by Vilaseca I., M. Lopez-Chacon, M. Valls, James F., P. Mackers, Blanch JL, and Bernal- Sprekelsen M.

Researchers from IDIBAPS and Hospital Clínic awarded for the best communication on basic Gastroenterology at the SEPD Congress

A study conducted by researchers from IDIBAPS and Hospital Clinic of Barcelona has received the Arias Vallejo prize for the best communication in Basic Gastroenterology presented at the LXXIV Annual Congress of the Spanish Society of Digestive Pathology (SEPD). This prize is awarded by the Digestive System Spanish Foundation (FEAD). Sergi Guixé-Muntet and Dr. Jordi Gracia-Sancho, researchers at the Liver hemodynamics and portal hypertension IDIBAPS team, are the first and last authors, respectively. Doctors Sergi Vila, Carmen Peralta, Juan Carlos Garcia-Pagan and Jaume Bosch have also participated in the study entitled “Role of autophagy in endothelial hepatic ischemia and reperfusion”.

Dr. Antoni Sisó awarded by the Spanish Society of Primary Care for his research career

The Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine (semFYC) has awarded Dr. Antoni Sisó in the category of “Trajectory Research in Primary Care” during the semFYC Congress held on 11-13 June in Gijón. The semFYC awards are granted annually to recognize specialists’ career in Primary Care in several areas such as universities, innovation, education or research.

Dr. Elías Campo recieves the Eugenio Rodriguez Pascual Award for his contributions to diagnosis and cancer therapy

Dr. Elias Campo, Research Director of the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, Head of the Human and experimental functional oncomorphology IDIBAPS team and full professor of anatomical pathology at the University of Barcelona (UB), has been recieved the Eugenio Rodriguez Pascual Award for his contributions to diagnosis and cancer therapy. In particular, for his research about mantle cell lymphoma and laryngeal cancer. The award was presented by the Minister of Health, Social Services and Equality, Alfonso Alonso, in a ceremony held last June 10th at the Casino de Madrid.
