The Barcelona International Convention Center hosted from 20-22 March the BIO-Europe Spring conference. This is the most important partnering congress in Europe for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. Attendees had 3 days to hold 30-minute private meetings with other international managers and business developers, from other institutions and companies around the world.
Elisenda Vendrell and Silvia Cufí of the IDIBAPS Office for Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) participated in the conference and met with companies in the sector to market the portfolio of ten technologies that the institution has. Up to 16 meetings were held with the objective of finding the right partner to finish developing these technologies so they can reach the market and, therefore, arrive to patients and society. Contacts with other institutions and more informal meetings were held at different networking events.
The BIO-Europe Spring 2017 is organized by EBD Group – firm specialized in partnering between key players in life sciences sector worldwide – with the collaboration of Biocat and ACCIÓN as host committee. Although one-to-one meetings are the highlight of the event, it also features workshops and company presentations about different topics like business development and enterpreneurship or R&D.
Among these, the Health Tech Startup Competition, where Transplant Biomedicals, an IDIBAPS spin-off, participated. Its CEO, Ignasi Heras, presented the company to a jury composed by ALTA Life Sciences, RCD, Biocat and Doctoralia Internet. This project, the result of the research made in organ transplantation by the group of Dr. Carmen Peralta, won the first prize for the best presentation.
