Two Clinic professionals receive the Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera “Talents” grants

Last Wednesday, November 23, was held in the Auditorium La Pedrera the 5th ceremony of delivery of the  Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera “Talents” Program grants, in which Hospital Clínic participates for the first time with the granting of two Scholarships. The event was chaired by the Health Minister of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Antoni Comín, who was accompanied by Ms. Marta Lacambra, CEO of the Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation; Dr. Jordi Ara, ICS North Metropolitan Area Manager; And Dr. Josep Mª Campistol, CEO of the Hospital Clínic, who was also chosen godfather of this year’s promotion.

For Dr. Campistol, the Clinic – Foundation Catalunya La Pedrera grants show “the commitment of the hospital to translational research, which allows the patient to be at the center of the activity; our commitment to research in nursing, and the willingness to give impetus to young researchers, who are the future“. The winners this year of the 1st Clinic – Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera grants are Andrea Vergara, with a research project of the Microbiology Lab (Center for Clínical Biomedical Diagnosis, CDB) and Mercedes Montoro, currently a nurse at the Clinical Institute for Hematological Diseases and Oncologic (ICMHO), who presented a study on pain management in advanced dementia.

The “Talents” Program, created in 2012 by the Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera and the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital, aims to reward, retain and strengthen the careers of young hospital talent. In these five years these grants have shared than one million euros in scholarships to more than fifty young researchers, and the results have already been observed in the form of scientific production. With the 17 professional scholarships of the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital, the two professional fellowships of Primary Care of the ICS and the two Clinic scholarships, this year the Program reaches almost 200,000 euros in aid to finance research projects.
