Nine IDIBAPS and Hospital Clínic research projects on heart diseases funded by 2014 TV3 Telethon

The TV3 Telethon Foundation hosted yesterday evening a ceremony to present the projects selected to be funded with the 11.4 million euros collected in the past edition dedicated to heart diseases. 70 research teams, coordinated with either Spanish and international teams, will develop the 43 selected projects over the next three years. Nine of the chosen projects correspond to researchers from Hospital Clínic and IDIBAPS. IDIBAPS becomes the institution with the greater number of projects funded and coordinated in this edition. The event was held at the Academy of Medical Sciences and Health of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands and was widely attended by representatives of the scientific community.

The ceremony was presented by Monica Terribas and Quim Masferrer, the conducters of the latest edition of the Telethon, and was attended by the Minister of Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Boi Ruiz, the President of the Academy of Medical Sciences and Health of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, Àlvar Net, and president of the Catalan Broadcasting Corporation and the Board of TV3 Telethon Foundation, Brauli Duart.

The funds intended for research in heart diseases form the TV3 Theleton are a very important boost for the research in this field. The combined efforts got the December 14, 2014 are now transformed into the sum of resources required to develop the 43 projects selected taht will be conducted  by research teams at the main institution of Catalonia.

The projects funded in this edition -22 singles and 21 coordinated between two or more research institutions-, are those that have been better rated among the 121 presented. Quality, methodology, scientific, health and social relevance, innovative value and viability of each project have been the factors that have determined the distribution of the funds raised in the last edition of the TV3 Theleton.
